I have seven grandchildren and this piece is the first in a series of sculptures dedicated to them. My granddaughter Chloe at the time was 2 years old and would always remove her clothes to be in diapers, so she did the same with her doll. I had seen this video of this child mimicking her mother who had just arrived from the hospital with Chloe's brand-new baby brother while feeding him. The expression on this child’s face showed so much love, which inspired me to do a sculpture of her. It was pure joy doing this sculpture even though it produced a lot of blisters during the process.
Bill Sears, a wood carver with over 32 years of experience was so impressed with this carving. With great determination, he convinced me to enter a woodcarving competition in Belfast, Maine. I won first prize at this event and subsequently won other awards in Canada.
